Misinformation on asylum seekers, on the situation of the Luxembourgish language, on cross-border commuters and on foreigners in general on social networks has prompted the Association de Soutien aux Travailleurs (ASTI) to create the new 'Linking Luxembourg' initiative, aimed at combatting hate, racism and xenophobia on the internet.
Following in the footsteps as the 'Making Luxembourg' and 'Mixing Luxembourg' campaigns, this new action intends to bring the blurred lines between researched information and unreliable propaganda into focus by providing a platform for dependable and objective information.
To this end, volunteers young and old, in collaboration with the No Hate Speech Movement of the Council of Europe and ASTI and with the support of the National Youth Service, will be launching the initiative on international Human Rights Day on 10 December 2015.
Each month, the website www.linkingluxembourg.lu and the action's Facebook page will publish information on current topics, including asylum seekers, cross-border commuters and the Luxembourgish language, with each dossier containing a humourous awareness video and in-depth information crucially providing statistics and a clear indication of sources used.
The main concept behind the project is for every individual to have access to videos and sources and to be able to share them on social networks, thus instigating informed discussions and inviting citizens of all ages to become actors in the fight against prejudice and misinformation.
