Strong new voices for women's rights worldwide: Jessie Thill, Camille Pescatore and Sophie Rasqui, students from Luxembourg, have founded the Golden Z Club Young Luxembourg.

With their Charter ceremony this Saturday 17 November 2018, they will be accepted into the women's network Zonta International.

The global association of professional women from 66 countries, with consultative status in the United Nations, celebrates its 99th anniversary in November. With the Golden Z Club Young Luxembourg, Zonta International is increasing representation from Luxembourg through young women who are just beginning their careers.

"Human rights for girls and women worldwide are still an unfulfilled promise and not a given," said Sophie Rasqui, president of the new Club. "We are still pursuing the same goals as our mothers and grandmothers. We look forward to working with experienced women's rights activists and to contributing to the implementation of these rights for women and girls with new input from our generation. "

Ute Scholz, Vice President of Zonta International, personally welcomed the young women: “Zonta International stays fully committed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Number 5 – gender equality. We want to see a world in which every woman and girl is able to achieve her full potential. We are going for greatly improved access to resources for all women and girls. We want to see them equally represented in decision-making positions. Above all, we want to see a world in which no woman or girl lives in fear of violence”, she stated in her speech.

With the founding of the Golden Z Club Young Luxembourg you are contributing directly to giving young women a voice in our international network”, said Régine Deguelle, governor of the District 27, which includes 78 clubs and almost 1,900 members in Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Poland and Ukraine. “In our times this becomes more and more important: Unfortunately we are witnessing today how the rights of women and girls all over the world are coming under more pressure, even before they have become self-evident in many regions.”

One of the first actions of the new Golden Z Club is the participation in ‘Orange Your City’, a worldwide campaign to stop violence against women and girls.

Zonta International is a leading global organisation of professionals committed to empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy. Zonta’s first club was established in Buffalo, New York, in November 1919 and membership today stands at approximately 30,000 Zontians in 66 countries. Zonta advocates through its General Consultative Status with the United Nations and Participatory Status at the Council of Europe. The Zonta International Foundation is a not-for-profit charitable organisation, which supports an extensive international service program through the contributions of Zonta clubs, individual Zontians and friends.
