On Wednesday evening, the Ambassador of Ireland to Luxembourg, Peadar Carpenter, hosted a reception for the inaugural meeting of the Trinity College Dublin (TCD) Aulmni organisation which has been recognised by the University of Dublin in Ireland.
In welcoming over 40 TCD alumni to the event, Ambassador Carpenter informed everyone that it had taken over two years to get this far, and that hopefully this organisation will have many different members and will continue to build over a period of time. He also hoped that the Irish community in the Grand Duchy will benefit from this new organisation and that it will make links with other alumni organisations too.
Mathilde Masson, one of those working behind the scenes to get the TCD Alumni off the ground, also spoke briefly and hoped that the association will organise interesting events in the future.
This inaugural reception of the Luxembourg branch of Trinity College Dublin Alumni and friends was an opportunity for TCD alumni to meet and re-connect with fellow graduates and to help grow Trinity's Global Alumni Network.
A preparatory meeting of individuals interested in establishing this association was first held in the Embassy in December, with this the formal launch of the alumni.
