The "Konviktsgaart", Residence Grande-Duchesse Joséphine-Charlotte, celebrated its 25th anniversary today in the presence of Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Pulfer, directors and members of the board, Family and Integration Minister Corinne Cohen, and Prime Minister Xavier Bettel.
The anniversary also presented an opportunity to showcase the plans for construction of the residential centre that were designed by architect Laurent Schmit and approved in 1986, to show how the Konviktsgaart has changed over time.
Changes have included the opening of a new shop in 2010, and expansion of the infirmary in 2013. In 2014, approval was given for the renovation for Block C. In November last year, the City Council approved a renovation project for the Konvikt apartments and short-stay rooms.
The opening of the Konviktsgaart in January 1992 represented an important step for the City in providing services to seniors. The interest was enormous. By the time of the official opening in May 1992 in the presence of Her Royal Highness the Grand Duchess, all the rooms were already occupied.
