On Monday 8 October 2018, SpaceResources.lu is organising a conference on the exploration and use of space resources, entitled "Innovation, Space Technologies and Patents" at the premises of the Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.

Initiated by the Office of Intellectual Property and the Luxembourg Space Agency of the Ministry of the Economy, the conference is organised by the European Patent Academy. Speakers include representatives of the Luxembourg Space Agency and the European Space Agency (ESA).

The event will cover the following topics:
• Inventions made in space, their terrestrial applications and their patent protection;
• Societal and economic impact: climate change mitigation technologies, public and civil security, military defense, disaster management, humanitarian aid and development, urban planning, information society, efficiency and productivity gains, health, forecasts weather, transport and air traffic control, agriculture and natural resource management;
• Company testimonials;
• Patent applications and patents relating to terrestrial inventions used in space;
• Possible changes in intellectual property policy and the legal framework in Europe to cope with increased commercialization of space activities;
• Democratisation of access to space: transport at an affordable price?

The event is being moderated by Lex Kaufhold, Director of the Intellectual Property Office, Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy, and Marc Serres, Director, Luxembourg Space Agency.​
