Construction Begins on Sports Service €19m Admin Building

Last Friday 18 May 2018 marked the beginning of construction of Luxembourg City’s Sports Service’s administrative building.

Since 1978, the Sports Service has been in charge of promoting sport across Luxembourg City. With a total of 210 employees, the Sports Service ensures the maintenance and provision of 82 sports facilities.

The new building will consist of an administrative part, maintenance workshops, storage space and a parking garage for commercial vehicles and auxiliary equipment. The administrative part will be split over three floors on the south side and will include the main entrance of the building; each level will include a meeting room. Meanwhile, the garage for commercial vehicles and auxiliary equipment, located on the upper level, will be accessible via a side access ramp, whilst the workshop spaces and storage areas, located at the lower level of the building, will be directly accessible from the lower esplanade.

The facade of the building will be covered with white metal cladding, with large mainly glass horizontal planks that will serve as fixed solar protection for the administrative area. The roof will be green and equipped with solar and photovoltaic panels. The building and technical facilities have been planned to obtain a low energy consumption performance of BBB.

The technical facilities will include a 740kW urban wood boiler which will fuel the new national stadium and the new P + R. The building will also be equipped with solar thermal panels for domestic hot water and solar panels as well as office air-conditioning, rainwater for the washing area, a sprinkler system, a transformer, a UPS system, access control and centralised blind management. Indoor and outdoor LED lighting will also be provided.

The workshops (painting, wood carpentry, mechanics, metalwork, electromechanical) will be fully equipped: local paint, overhead crane, centralised pollution control system, automatic storage height and machine tools.

The total cost of construction is set at €18,959,994 (including taxes).
