The first phase of construction has begun on the Moselle tourist and wine centre in Ehnen.

Work has started on the creation of a Moselle tourist and wine centre in Ehnen, a redevelopment and extension project taking intoa account the architecture and the character of the old buildings of the Wellenstein, Schëntgen and Kelterhaus houses, classified as national monuments. Located near the centre of the village, these buildings have developed over time an affinity with the river, valley and vineyards.

The existing protected buildings dating from the 16th and 18th centuries will be transformed and renovated. A new building, creating a covered reception area, will complete the built volume. The new construction will include a reception area with its bistro and vinotheque, consisting of a wooden frame structure anchored on a massive slab of reinforced concrete and covered with a copper coating.

Inside, the framework will remain visible and will form a warm space for the vinotheque and bistro, featuring wood coverings and two large windows overlooking the Moselle and the courtyard. Meanwhile, the bistro, with a capacity of 50 people, will be feature a new kitchen, located in the annex buildings at the back of the site.

Regarding the three houses, Schëntgen House will be renovated and adapted in close collaboration with the National Sites and Monuments Services. After renovation, the building will house the new reception and most of the exhibition halls. In the section connecting the Wellenstein House to the Schëntgen House, sanitary renovations, a library and lounge area are planned as well as an elevator. Finally, Kelterhaus House will include a large vaulted room in the basement and a multifunctional room for 170 people upstairs. The new kitchen in the annexes of the Kelterhaus House will serve the rooms and the bistro of the new building.

In addition, outdoor spaces will complement the existing facilities and house a bicycle station in front of the new main entrance.

The current budget for the project is €4,700,000 and will be extended to €5,000,000 thanks to the Administrative Public Investment Fund in 2019. The costs related to the development of the exhibition are not part of this budget.

The project will last approximately 2 ½ years, from July 2018 to early 2021.
