A total of seven Luxembourg-based companies participated in the Cents Corporate Challenge on Sunday 7 June, competing in a friendly sports competition that raised more than €15,000 for the Red Cross Social Groceries initiative (www.buttek.lu).

The impressive amount of funds raised was largely due to the main sponsor for the day, Nordea Bank, which generously donated €10,000 in support of the Buttek service. The social grocery offers people and families on income support the possibility to buy their household necessities (food and household products) at up to 75% discount from the retail price. A 7th social grocery store was recently opened to serve the Steinfort area and will benefit directly from the funds raised.

During the cheque-giving ceremony in the presence of Nordea’s CEO, Thorben Sander, Frank Schmit (responsible for Fund Raising at the Red Cross Luxembourg, thanked all participants for supporting the cause, pointing out “Nordea’s sponsorship ensures the new shop in Steinfort runs smoothly for an entire month.”

Featuring competitions from track-and-field, sprints, relay, egg toss, sack race to tug-of-war and three legged races, Triple C was a full day of fun and team-building, gaining the support of Deloitte, HSBC, Nordea Bank, European Investment Bank, Arcelor Mittal, Elvinger, Hoss & Prussen and John Deere Bank who competed against each other for this great cause.

Designed as a friendly competition for participating companies, with Arcelor Mittal winning in the overall team ranking, the Triple C also offered plenty of activities for children, including arts & crafts, face-painting, an obstacle course and many other activities hosted by volunteers.

Run entirely by volunteers at the International Section of the Red Cross, the 2015 edition of the Triple C took place at the Institut National des Sports (INS) in Cents, benefitting from the support of the Luxembourg Ministry of Sports (logistics), Nordea (sponsorship), Elvinger, Hoss & Prussen (event promotion), Alois Personal Trainer (the fitness challenge), and all the suppliers, Kohll-Leuck, Gravolux, Cactus, Ruppert, Grosbusch and Electro Hauser, which supported the event’s fundraising.

Founded in 2014 to mark the 100 year anniversary of the Red Cross Luxembourg, the Cents Corporate Challenge celebrated its second iteration this year, building on last year’s successful edition, which raised €10,366 for the Red Cross.
