The Schengen Peace Foundation has adopted a new policy to connect peacemakers globally by supporting national chapters in different countries.
Each national chapter of the World Peace Forum is a group of peace activists in a country that forms an active peace lobby group that promotes the yearly world peace forum in their area, and is set up as a not-for-profit association (NGO). The national chapter co-ordinates and conducts any peace activities under the name of the World Peace Forum in their country. They also raise funds in order to put together a group of peace delegates to travel to the annual World Peace Forum.
Those national chapters recognised by the World Peace forum will be listed online at www.WorldPeaceForum.org.
The World Peace Forum has its origins in Schengen in Luxembourg, very close to the borders with France and Germany. In 2015 the World Peace Forum evolved and held three major events: the Youth World Peace Forum (for 15 to 30 year-olds) in Cairo, Egypt; the World Peace Forum in Baia Mare, Romania; and the Luxembourg Peace Prize in Luxembourg.
In 2016, the World Peace Forum will celebrate its 10th anniversary by aiming for an even greater spread of countries represented by delegates attending the various events. To date, 40+ countries have been represented, with delegates coming from North and South America, Asia, Africa, the Middle East & Europe.
For 2016, the major events planned include the following:
- 24 May 2016: Luxembourg Peace Prize
- 22-25 September 2016: World Peace Forum and Youth World Peace Forum, in Florianopolis, Brazil
The Schengen Peace Foundation was initiated in 2005 as a not-for-profit charity approved by his Majesty Henri, the Grand Duke of Luxembourg on Oct 19th, 2007. The Foundation contributes to the construction of a more peaceful world by promoting peace, tolerance and understanding through multicultural dialogue with the help of discussions, publications, exhibits and workshops, internet platforms, encounters, exchange and education programs as well as studies about peace. The fora attract well-known speakers and VIP guests from around the globe that will be participating
