In 2017, the Governing Board of the Fonds culturel national (Focuna) awarded 48 scholarships for a total amount of € 147,066.71.

The scholarships, financed by Focuna, Fondation Michelle, BIL and Fondation Indépendance, were awarded on the basis of calls for applications. Each scholarship was evaluated by a different jury of experts. In 2017, Focuna invited 78 experts to sit on these juries.

Moreover, as part of its artist residency programme, Focuna, together with public and private partners, was able to offer four artists and one author residencies, which provide the technical and financial conditions necessary to conceive, write or produce and better anchor a new work in the local area. In 2017, Laurianne Bixhain, Chantal Maquet, Simone Mousset, Tom Nisse and Nora Wagner benefitted from residencies. In addition, the residents benefited from mobility, research or work grants for a total amount of €63,450.

Focuna has also partnered with the GIE Luxembourg Expo 2020 Dubai for the culture component of the Luxembourg pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, which will take place from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021. Eight artists have been selected by an artistic committee to form a team of artists. The artists' collective is composed of Julie Conrad (design), Ady El Assal (film), Guy Helminger (literature), Karolina Markiewicz & Pascal Piron (visual arts), Simone Mousset (dance), Patrick Muller (music) and Renelde Pierlot (theatre). Focuna contributes up to 2020 to the tune of €70,000 per year for the development of the selected artistic proposals.

Focuna’s resources in 2017 amounted to €700,000 from both the proceeds generated by the National Lottery and paid through the work of Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte (€600,000) and by private patrons (€100 000).
