Chinese-born choreographer Shen Wei will be bringing two performances steeped in Chinese opera, modern dance, painting and calligraphy to the Grand Théâtre in Luxembourg City this May 2016.
Based in New York, Shen Wei gained notoriety as the mastermind behind part of the Beijing Olympic Opening Ceremonies. He will now be bringing his talents to the Grand Duchy in the form of 'Map' and 'Folding'.
Steve Reich's 'Desert Music' sets the soundscape for 'Map', exploring dance's circularity in all its forms, from rotating and swivelling to swirling and winding. Meanwhile 'Folding' uses fabric to accentuate the dancers' glides across the floor, with each action echoed to create a ripple effect.
The performances will take place in the Grande Salle of the Grand Théâtre at 20:00 on Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 May 2016. Tickets cost 25€, 20€ or 15€ for adults depending on seating, 8€ for children and free with a Kulturpass. For more information, click here.
