Margarida Santiago, George & Dragon;

15 months after it shut its doors, the iconic and quintessentially English pub, the George & Dragon, has moved and has re-opened its doors.

Under the same management, Margarida Santiago has relocated the pub - which first opened its doors in 1984 - a kilometre away, to 114 Rue de Rollingergrund (L-2440 Luxembourg), located between the Aral filling station and the l'Opera restaurant; she had held the licence for the George & Dragon since 2007 and has brought much of the old interior with her to the new premises. She explained that the official name is "George & Dragon Bei der Fiels" which recognises both its English and Luxembourgish background and clientele.

Most strikingly, when one enters the 150m2 ground floor - you would get the same impression browsing the photos on the website (www.georgeanddragon.lu) - it both looks and feels that you are in the old premises which closed its doors back in October 2017. The stone fireplace is there, the wooden beams decorate the ceilings and walls, the walls are painted the same pink hue, and the pictures and other decorations adorn the walls.

The bar is well stocked and has various draught English ales and beer, Diekirch from Luxembourg and Guinness from Ireland, as well as a huge array of spirits and soft drinks too. In it's L-shaped layout, down the back will shortly see a tv installed screening satellite sports.

Upstairs, the small rooms have a pool table and two table football ("babyfoot" / "kicker") tables, and a couple of lottery gaming machines. when the weather warms up, the terrace garden will be opened, offering more space for customers.

The bar is currently open from 16:00 Sundays to Fridays, with Saturdays from 19:00, with 01:00 closing daily. From its official opening next Friday, 8 February 2019 from 17:00, it will then open from midday on Monday-Friday, when food will be served. In addition to a bar food menu, the kitchen will also offer a freshly-prepared Dish of the Day.

Street parking is available, as well as in the car-park of the nearby school on Rue Louis Deny, from 5pm on week-days and on week-ends. The bus stop Bei der Fiels (line 21) is a stone's throw from the front door, and LuxTram stops just a few hundred metres away on the Place d el'Etoile.

Another new initiative is that the (new) George & Dragon has a Facebook presence and a new website (www.georgeanddragon.lu).
