Chaired by Francine Closener, Secretary of State for the Economy, the Economic Committee today analysed the labour market situation of February 2018 and the national economic situation.

For the month of April 2018, the number of applications submitted decreased by 1 unit compared to the previous month. In total, eight companies applied for partial unemployment benefits in order to benefit from the provisions of this measure in the next month.

After analysing the submitted files, the Economic Committee decided favourably on 8 requests, the final decision on the allocation of this support to companies temporarily facing a difficult economic situation falling to the Cabinet. In the companies concerned, it is expected that out of a total workforce of 660, 440 employees work on a reduced schedule.

Moreover, expenditure charged to the Employment Fund for the month of April 2018 is €735 000 if all the companies concerned take full advantage of the short-time work schemes granted.

The Economic Committee also issued positive decisions in relation to three applications for tax exemption of voluntary redundancy benefits pursuant to Article 115 (10) L.I.R. concerning the eligibility of 29 persons in the undertakings concerned.

In addition, the Economic Committee analysed in more detail the economic, financial and social situation of a company wishing to implement a plan to maintain employment, a plan which the committee approved.

The next meeting of the Economic Committee is scheduled for Wednesday 25 April 2018.
