In 2015, the cost per pupil in public education in Luxembourg was over €19,700 and the dropout rate was 12.4%.

These are some of the figures revealed in a new leaflet by the Statistics and Analyses Department of the Luxembourg Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth.

The leaflet covers a large part of the basic statistics concerning the Luxembourg education system: the evolution of the number of pupils in public education and in private and international schools, students in neighbouring areas, diplomas and certifications issued, certification rate, drop-out rate and the cost per student and faculty.

For instance, there was a total of 101,524 registered pupils in the school year 2016/17, including 48,319 in primary education, 875 in special education and 39,171 in secondary education in national schools. As for international schools, there were a further 6,309 primary school pupils and 6,850 pupils in secondary education.

Concerning the gender of teachers across Luxembourg schools, there was quite the gap between men (1,065) and women (4,650) in national primary education, whereas the numbers were more even in secondary education (2,122 men to 2,382 women).
