Today saw school children across Luxembourg return to the classroom after the summer holidays, and Luxembourg City was no exception.

On Monday 17 September, on the occasion of the start of the school year 2018/2019, Luxembourg City mayor Lydie Polfer as well as Colette Mart, alderwoman in charge of education and Isabel Wiseler-Lima, alderwoman, visited the classes of cycles 1 to 4 of Merl Primary School.

In total, nearly 5,000 children returned to school in one of the 19 primary schools in the capital. Of these children, 1,764 are enrolled in cycle 1 (preschool and early years) and 3,209 in cycles 2 to 4. Students are divided into 356 classes, supervised by 560 teachers.
