British Ambassador John Marshall;

$On Thursday 14 June 2018, The British Ambassador to Luxembourg, John Marshall, welcomed a sizeable crowd to his residence to celebrate the birthday of Queen Elizabeth II.

With most people glass in hand scattered around the gardens of the residence, Amb Marshall addressed those attending who had one eye skywards as the rain threatened to fall.

He welcomed everyone to what is the Queen's 92nd birthday, and he reminded everyone that this is also her 65th year since her coronation.

Getting Brexit out of the way, he said first that "things are going better than the press and Michel Barnier make you believe", that there is a momentum and that there are some difficult subjects outstanding. He stressed that these are negotiations, with the aim to have agreement by October. And, secondly, about the future, he that that they want a broad, deep and special partnership. Yes, the UK will be a "3rd country" and it will be very important to retain close cooperation. He said that all outstanding issues are possible and that all are political decisions, and he hopes that all concerned come to agreement.

He briefly reviewed the celebration of the royal wedding last month and the Open Day which was attended by 700 people, the celebration of the centenary of the Royal Air Force (RAF) and the #LUXUKLINKS exhibition which has now been published in book format.

The event continued with music provided by the NSPA in Capellen, with some people visiting the #LUXUKLINKS exhibition in the residence building.
