The Ville de Luxembourg (VdL) has organised an educational trail through the city from 19 May to mid-September 2018 in an attempt to raise awareness of bees and biodiversity.

As part of its awareness project of bees and biodiversity, the VdL, in collaboration with the National Museum of Natural History, is offering a pedestrian circuit of around 2.5km across the capital. Thanks to 13 points of information, the course will encourage children as adults to learn about the world of bees and other insects essential to a healthy and balanced environment.

Panels in French, German and English will provide detailed explanations of the city's biodiversity, the different varieties of wild and honey bees and their living space, as well as their way of life, reproduction, orientation and the products of their work, such as honey from the VdL.

The educational trail will allow participants to examine, in what is aimed at being an educational and fun way, the characteristics of bees, drones, hornets and wasps, but also parasites harmful to these essential insects. Through this beautiful walk, pedestrians will learn facts such as nature vocabulary, the ability to name the native flora and fauna and the awareness of the state and quality of the urban environment. It will also be possible to discover a hotel for insects and wild bees as well as to observe closely the daily comings and goings of these “hard workers" at the entrance of their hive thanks to an affixed mirror.

The Bees and Biodiversity Awareness Project is organised by the VdL, in collaboration with the Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO), natur & ëmwelt, the National Museum of Natural History (MNHN) and the Bridges and Pavements Administration, as well as with the support of the State Archives, the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure and Servior - Op der Rhum.
