Wednesday evening at Luxembourg's Nordic Film Festival saw the screening of acclaimed director Roy Andersson's A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence.
An almost-full screening room saw two travelling salesmen go from one situation to another, often absurd, in a film that examined lonliness and isolation in a very slow-moving yet intense drama, peppered with comedic moments and others tragic. From a technical perspective, issues such as graining and make-up ensured a continuity on screen that has the film and director winning many plaudits and awards, but it is far from an entertainment piece.
What is sure to be entertaining, though, is Thursday's Icelandic double-bill, with Agust Gudmundsson's family comedy Spooks and Spirits followed by Balvin Zophoniasson's award-winning drama Life in a Fishbowl. Agust Gudmundsson will join via Skype following the screening of the first.
