The Luxembourg City Film Festival has announced that, for its 9th edition in 2019, it will be expanding its daily line-up; from 7 to 17 March 2019, festivalgoers will be able to attend screenings ALL DAY LONG - more daytime screenings, more choice, more fun and all for the unaffected Festival Pass price of €30 for an unlimited number of public screenings.

With over 30,000 people taking part in last year’s event, Luxembourg City Film Festival has exceeded expectations since it began in 2011.

From one edition to the next, the Festival has not only managed to attract local filmgoers but also cinema enthusiasts from the Greater Region and beyond, making Luxembourg City Film Festival an unmissable cultural event at home as well as internationally. However, the Festival became a victim of its own success. As attendance increased, frustration grew at the evening-only screening schedule that restricted festivalgoers to seeing only a limited number of films in the programme and missing out on the rest.

Bearing this in mind, the Festival team has decided to abandon old habits and shake things up for the 2019 edition. During the 9th edition – and for the first time ever in the event’s history – festivalgoers will be able to attend screenings all day long. In the morning, young audiences and school screenings will be open to the public (subject to availability), while additional screenings will take place at noon and in the afternoon thanks to the generous support of three partner cinemas: Kinepolis Kirchberg, Ciné Utopia and the Cinémathèque de la Ville de Luxembourg.

ALL DAY LONG will be the mantra of 2019’s edition. The change marks a step forward for the Festival, especially in the lead-up to its 10th anniversary edition in 2020. As noted at other festivals that have made similar changes to their programmes, it will take time for daytime screenings to become as popular as those in the evening. But the team, their supporting partners and sponsors, are aware that this is a necessary step to further professionalise the event. They all hope that loyal Luxfilmfest fans will make full use of this opportunity to see even more films and pencil the Festival dates in their diaries in preparation.
