A moderately funny caper that tries, albeit unsuccessfully, to stamp a Quentin Tarantino-esque mark. The storyline concerns Mike Howell (Jesse Eisenberg) who, when he is not working at his uninteresting and dead-end job at a convenience store, spends his time getting high on marujana. He loves his girlfriend, Phoebe Larson (Kristen Stewart), and she adores him and forgives him all his foibles. But why? Surely there is something else behind this external facade?

Mike is too stoned to think any further than his next joint. He also suffers from anxiety attacks and plans to ask Phoebe to marry him while they are on holiday - how on earth does he have the mindset to save up and plan a holiday in his state of mind, this is one of the glaring plot inconsistencies. Another is how/why Phoebe forgives him and does not let it rattle her one iota.

Then their life and existence are shaken upside down. An FBI agent, Adrian Yates (Topher Grace) wants to make a name for himself and decides to shut down an operation which had selected down-and-outs and recruited them for a special programme. Mike was one such agent and his "inner agent" is reawakened when he is targeted for elimination. Even he is too wasted to remember the past and understand what is happening. But, along with Phoebe and help from Victoria Lasseter (Connie Britton), another agent, they survive.

Throughout the film, the make-up artists get to add more and more visual effects to the faces and clothes of the main two characters, in particular, as they are involved in chases and gun battles as the tempo rises. Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart click well together as their characters have similar personalities.
