Directed and written by Nancy Meyers (Private Benjamin, What Women Want, The Parent Trap, The Holiday) and starring Robert De Niro (Raging Bull, Cape Fear, Silver Linings Playbook, Taxi Driver, The Godfather, The Deer Hunter) and Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables, The Dark Knight Rises, The Devil Wears Prada, Interstellar, Alice in Wonderland, The Dark Knight Rises).
Comedy drama; 121 mins; 6+
70-year-old widower Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro) is looking for a meaningful challenge and becomes a senior intern at a successful start-up company involved in online fashion and which employs primarily young people in a trendy renovated warehouse. There he is assigned to owner-manager Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway) who is trying to balance the demands of a successful and growing company in scaling up, with a young family and stay-at-home husband.
An endearing and truly funny comedy in which Ben Whittaker is appreciated and loved by all, except Jules Ostin, at least initially. He starts to prove his worth and becomes a trusted member of staff and even a confidant. He spots the signs of trouble before they manifest themselves and coaches other (younger) interns and members of staff.
A feel-good film that will put a smile, and maybe an emotional tear, on your face.
