Following on from the original 1933 classic film starring Fay Wray, and the original remake in 2005 starring Naomi Watts and Jack Black, one question is at the tips of many tongues: why another remake? Simply put, Kong: Skull Island is a great adventure film that stands alone, with the backdrop of a giant gorilla, Kong.

Set in the 1970s, James Conrad (Tom Hiddleston) is a monster hunter who convinces the US Government to finance an expedition to an unexplored island in the South Pacific. With a team travelling under the guise of geological research, they travel to "Skull Island" and come across a number of enormous creatures, including dinosaurs and, of course, Kong. Their arrival and interference upsets the delicate balance of nature that exists on the island and, yes, Kong is smitten by the gorgeous Mason Weaver (Brie Larson) - but certainly not in the the same way or extent as in the previous Kong films. The pretext in this film is almost credible.

In among the stunning scenery and the deadly creatures, this action adventure does not fail to deliver, and does so in leaps and bounds, with a fact-paced storyline helped by the characters of Hank Marlow (John C. Reilly), Bill Randa (John Goodman) and Preston Packard (Samuel L. Jackson). Mayhem ensues with some making it out alive...

This blockbuster is helpedworth the ticket price and should not be missed.
