On a historic evening at the Stade Josy Barthel in Luxembourg city, Progrès Niederkorn overcame a 1-0 first leg (away) deficit to record a 2-0 win over Glasgow Rangers in the UEFA Europa League first qualifying round (2-1 on aggregate).

Cancelling out Rangers' goal scored by Kenny Miller in Ibrox (Glasgow) last week, Emmanuel Francoise scored after 64 minutes from a cross by Olivier Thill. This set up a tense last 25 minutes, but when Sebastian Thill scored just ten minutes later direct from a free kick, the home crowd went wild.

Rangers did go close towards the end, with Josh Windass hitting the crossbar with a diving header with just 5 minutes left to play, then Kenny Miller hits the bar with almost the lask kick of the game - the third time they hit the bar in the second half. The extra three minutes of injury time added on were agony for the home supporters, but Niederkorn hung on to progress at the expense of Glasgow Rangers.

FC Progrés Niederkorn are playing in their 7th European campaign since their debut in the 1977-78 season. In this game alone they have scored only their 2nd and 3rd ever goals in European football.
