On Thursday evening, F91 Dudelange won their first-leg match of their UEFA Europa League qualifying play-off against Romanian side CFR Cluj.

Playing at home in the first leg, at the Stade Josy Barthel in Luxembourg city, the match was all-square at half-time. However, with the game entering the last quarter, F91 Dudelange scored two in 14 minutes, with goals from David Turpel and Danel Sinani, to register a famous 2-0 score-line which they take to Romania for the second leg this coming week.

There was a somewhat nervous end to the match, however, as the officials signalled an additional 8 minutes of added time to be played. This had been primarily due to a serious injury to F91 Dudelange's goalkeeper and captain, C Joubert, who had gone off with a broken leg in the 53rd minute and who will be unavailable for a number of weeks, including forthcoming UEFA Europa League ties.

F91 Dudelange, coached by Dino Toppmöller, are on the verge of a place in the UEFA Europa League group stage, and would be the first Luxembourg side to achieve that feat. The return leg of the play-offs is next Thursday, with the group stage draw scheduled for the following day, Friday 31 August.
