On Friday evening, Luxembourg - second in the UEFA Nations League Group D2 - defeated Lithuania 2-1 in their opening match in their European Championships Qualifiers Group B match held at the Stade Josy Barthel in the Grand Duchy; this week-end see the first series of matches on the road to UEFA EURO 2020.

Despite the visitors taking the lead in the 14th minute by Černych, Luxembourg pressed forward and equalised with almost the last touch of the first half with a fine goal by Barreiro Martins. Vincent Thill slid through a wonderful low pass and Barreiro Martins latched onto it before firing under the onrushing Šetkus.

In the second half, Rodrigues scored the hosts' second goal just 10 minutes after the re-start with a fine curling shot that proved to be unstoppable; his first international goal came after he received the ball 25 metres out shifted it slightly and bent a brilliant finish inside the far upright.

Luxembourg currently top Group B, following Portugal's goalless draw with Ukraine, and next play against Ukraine in Kiev next Monday evening, at the same time when Portugal host Serbia, the 5th team in the group.
