On Wednesday 24 January 2024, the Indian Business Chamber of Luxembourg (IBCL) held an informative networking event at DSM Avocats à la Cour in Luxembourg-Merl.

Attended by over 50 professionals, according to the organisers, the event "Taxation and Investment Policies of India and Luxembourg for cross-border financing" provided a platform for "insightful" presentations, networking opportunities and shared discussions over a glass of wine.

The event kicked off with a welcome address by Mario Di Stefano, Managing Partner at DSM Avocats à la Cour. Paul Schonenberg, Chairman and CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg (AMCHAM), then provided some context in his welcome remarks - AMCHAM was the supporting chamber of this event. The speakers (some of whom joined virtually) were Alex Pham (Tax Partner, DSM Avocats à la Cour), Rocio Rivas (ArcelorMittal), Shahid Khan (Kochhar & Co) and Yogesh Mittal (JBM Environment). The Master of Ceremony was Maxime Cuche, Marketing Officer at DSM Avocats à la Cour.

Alex Pham provided a taxation overview, looking at the IP tax regime and ATADs in Luxembourg, whilst Rocio Rivas explored the double tax treaty between India and Luxembourg and BEPS. Meanwhile, Yogesh Mittal discussed key regulations for India and Luxembourg impacting outward direct investment (ODI) and foreign direct investment (FDI) and Shahid Khan looked at tax issues in FDI in relation to India and Luxembourg.

Aditya Sharma, EU-India Trade Policies Expert and IBCL President, presented an update on the EU-India Free Trade Agreement, highlighting the key challenges and the potential for Luxembourg. He also updated the audience on the implementation of the Luxembourg-India Social Security Agreement and the efforts of IBCL to make the administrative process simpler.

Moreover, President Aditya Sharma informed attendees of three upcoming missions/visits to New Delhi and Mumbai, namely: ET Global Business Summit in New Delhi, from 9 to 10 February 2024; CII India Europe Business and Sustainability Conclave in New Delhi, from 20 to 21 February 2024; ChemTECH World Expo 2024 and WaterEx in Mumbai, from 4 to 6 March 2024; CHEMTEC / WaterEx in Mumbai, also from 4 to 6 March 2024. He also invited IBCL members to join the next anniversary event on 26 March 2024 to discuss Luxembourg's vision for 2030 with top decision makers. Aditya thanked the members and showed his appreciation for the active engagement of attendees and sponsors.

The evening concluded with networking over Indian snacks and drinks.
