The newly-formed Luxembourg for Tourism has announced that hotelier Romain Weber is to become its new President.
On 18 December 2015, Luxembourg for Tourism (LFT) was founded as an economic interest group (EIG) on the initiative of Luxembourg's Ministry of Economy.
This legal form involves the State, the Regional Tourist Offices, the Ville de Luxembourg and the LCTO, the Chamber of Commerce, the transport sector and accommodation sector and allows a collaboration between professional actors that was previously under the remit of the National Tourism Office (ONT). The group, which took over the tasks and staff of the ONT, is now authorised to provide commercial-type activities.
Its main mission is to promote Luxembourg's tourism image abroad, strengthening Luxembourg's image as a tourist destination. It provides assistance, advice and expertise to the State and to the members of the EIG in the design and development of their projects. It observes tourist developments, implements statistical analysis tools and studies tourism supply and demand. LFT serves as platform for exchange and dialogue to foster close collaboration and joint action between public and private stakeholders in tourism.
The appointment of Romain Weber at the head of LFT is a strong sign, underlining the importance that the new structure gives the professional sector. A passionate hotelier by profession, Romain Weber also represents the spirit of an entrepreneur. After his studies in hospitality and experiences gathered in Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg, he created his first hotel at the age of 25, his second at 30.
A man o strong skills and experience, a member of the Board of Horesca, he sees his first function as president of the new GIE as "a historic opportunity to contribute to the development of the tourism sector in Luxembourg". Together with actors from LFT, Romain Weber intends to "move towards the professionalisation and growth of the sector." The new president wants to bring together all stakeholders to agree on the same medium and long term goals.
