The Ville de Dudelange and Opderschmeltz are organising the 7th edition of the hugely-popular international jazz festival "Like a Jazz Machine" from 10 - 13 May 2018.
The reputation of Dudelange as Luxembourg’s City of Jazz is firmly established. By creating the festival “Like a Jazz Machine” in 2012, the founders have started a powerful generator of energies, visions and jazz moods. Relying on their ultimate commitment to jazz, the CCRD opderschmelz and the cultural department of the city created a common platform for the artists, the public, the professionals and cultural workers, as well as the associations and societies interested in partnership.

After the huge success of the previous six editions, “Like a Jazz Machine” 2018 offers an open range of contemporary currents in jazz, by highlighting original creations and jazz on the highest level, as well as focusing on cross-border incursions in other musical genres. 16 bands and ensembles, assembling over 80 musicians, are going to share the stage of the CCRD opderschmelz during a period of four consecutive days.

Many artists in this programme come back to the roots and many represent new exciting trends. The festival celebrates jazz in all its forms, and ranges from tradition to modernity. The festival features big stars and living legends, either as leaders or as guest stars, world-renowned artists like Joachim Kühn, Enrico Pieranunzi, Sylvain Rifflet, Reto Weber, Soweto Kinch, Cymande, just as award-winning, confirmed talents like Reggie Washington, Nasheet Waits, Stéphane Kerecki, who stay for outstanding and pioneering performances. A particular emphasis lies also on all-star bands such as the Nathalie Loriers Trio, Dadada, the Erdmann/Perfido/Sieverts EPS Trio.

Several artists were commissioned to develop original projects in residence at the CCRD opderschmelz, with complete artistic freedom, yet tightly linked with the venue and the festival  (Michel Meis, EPS, Bender/Kühn). Jazz from Luxembourg, exceptionally dynamic and creative, is represented by Jeff Herr, Michel Meis, Maxime Bender, Michel Reis.

The last performances of each day are particularly hot, the bands go party, while staying on the highest artistic level, and invite the public to the dance-floor with their energetic hiphop-drives, groovy rythms and wild sounds. Excitement will reach then its peak, with the mythic Cymande, Chlorine Free, Melt Yourself Down and Reto Weber’s Percussion Orchestra.

“Like a Jazz Machine” is an urban and eclectic festival for all ages, dedicated to enhance various moods and to keep on turning the resourceful machineries of today’s jazz all over the City of Dudelange, the whole of Luxembourg and the extended European borderland.
