The Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER) has found that the share of older workers in the Grand Duchy has more than doubled since 1994.

In the context of discussions held earlier this week at a workshop organised by the interregional job market consultant OIE at LISER, which centred on older workers in the Greater Region’s labour market, LISER has updated four socio-economic indicators. Two concern the evolution of the structure of the workforce in domestic employment from 1994 to 2017) and two concern the situation of older workers on the labour market, according to the size of firms and business activity.

The newly updated indicators are the following:

Situation of older workers on the labour market- share of workers over 50 years old in firms according to their size (1994, 2003, 2007-2017); share of workers over 50 years old in firms according to the business activity (1994, 2003, 2007-2017)

Structure of the workforce in domestic employment- age pyramid (%) and main indicators of domestic employment in Luxembourg (1994, 2003, 2007-2017); age pyramid (numbers) on domestic employment in Luxembourg (1994, 2003, 2007-2017).

The new figures have provided insight into Luxembourg’s labour market, notably revealing that over the past 23 years, the number of workers aged 50 and over has doubled.
