Unemployment in Luxembourg has stabilised at 5.6%, following a drop of 3.8% since last year.

As of 31 May 2018, the number of available resident job seekers registered with the ADEM, representing a drop of 580 people or 3.8% from the previous year. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate calculated by STATEC is 5.6%.

The decline particularly affects jobseekers under the age of 30 (-7.7%) and low-skilled jobseekers (-5.2%) and the number of long-term unemployed decreased by 4.4%. On the other hand, the number of jobseekers graduating from higher education increased by 59 or by 2.1%.

The number of beneficiaries of employment benefits was 5,119 as of the end of May this year, representing an annual drop of 291 people or 5.4%. Nevertheless, the number of beneficiaries of the professionalisation internship increased by 53 people and the number of adult learners increased by 38 over one year.

During the month of May 2018, employers declared 3,779 vacant positions to the ADEM, that is 219 posts or 6.2% more than in May 2017.
