On Wednesday 13 March 2024, the Council of Government (Luxembourg's Cabinet) approved the appointment of Pascal Peters as Director General of the Grand Ducal Police.

Pascal Peters will succeed Philippe Schrantz, who is set to retire, as of 1 June 2024. Mr Peters boasts 27 years of experience within the Grand Ducal Police. After having held various positions within the gendarmerie and the Grand Ducal Police, including Commander of the Special Police Unit, Head of the Investigation Department at the General Police Inspectorate and Deputy Director of Operations, Pascal Peters has served as Central Director of the Administrative Police since 2018. Mr Peters holds a master's degree in criminology from the University of Liège and a degree in law and criminal sciences from the University of Paris-Sud/Paris-Saclay.

Moreover, Alain Engelhardt has been named Deputy Director General of the Grand Ducal Police, with effect from 1 May 2024. Mr Engelhardt boasts 22 years of experience within the Grand Ducal Police. After having held several positions of responsibility, including Deputy Director of the Human Resources Department, Director of the regional district in Grevenmacher and Coordinator of reform work, he has held the position of Central Director of strategy and performance of the Grand Ducal Police since 2018. Mr Engelhardt holds a master's degree in law from the Robert Schuman University of Strasbourg and is a graduate of the École Nationale des Officiers in Brussels.

The Cabinet also approved the appointment of Jeanne Schumacher to the position of Director of the State Intelligence Service (Service de Renseignement de l'État - SRE) from 1 June 2024. Ms Schumacher has served as Deputy Director since 2021. Since 2007, she has held several positions within the SRE, including analyst in the field of counterterrorism, head of horizontal analysis and deputy head of the "Intelligence" division. She holds a Master of Arts in Islamic studies and Arabic language from the University of Münster.

Finally, the Cabinet approved the appointment of Guy Bley as High Commissioner for National Protection. The current Deputy High Commissioner has extensive professional experience in his field. After having assumed various responsibilities within the Emergency Services Administration, including head of the civil protection division, he joined the Office of the High Commissioner for National Protection in 2016, where he assisted the High Commissioner for National Protection. He was appointed Deputy High Commissioner for National Protection in 2022. Mr Bley holds a bachelor's degree in hospital sciences and a postgraduate certificate in disaster medicine from the Université Libre de Bruxelles.
