As of today, 29 November 2017, the Luxembourg medical website med.lod.lu is now operational.

The site, created by the team of the Lëtzebuerger Online Dictionnaire, aims to encourage better communication in the domain of health in a multilingual society.

This specific site features medical expressions with example sentences in Luxembourgish and translations into French, German, English and Portuguese. The expressions can be looked up in all five languages. med.lod.lu is thus aimed at patients and professionals alike and aspires to enable both parties to use the LOD to make themselves better understood.

Guy Arendt, State Secretary for Culture, highlighted that the initiative falls in line with efforts of the government to promote the Luxembourgish language: “I am convinced that this site will make all our lives easier. Times of illness are unsettling and people will appreciate a tool that enables them to find the needed expression in a quick and uncomplicated way.”

Indeed, the team behind the site aimed to make medical language more understandable to everyone in Luxembourg.
