The Kannerhaus Jean Therapeutic Centre has extended its care for children thanks to its new boarding school in Luxembourg.

The new boarding school was officially inaugurated on 26 September 2018 in the presence of Claude Meisch, Luxembourg Minister of National Education, Childhood and Youth. This structure offers an additional tool in the care of children suffering from psychological disorders.

The Luxembourg Red Cross' Kannerhaus Jean offers therapeutic and psychopaedagogical support to children and their families. In addition to the existing 105 outpatient and semi-stationary spaces, there are now 12 places for children requiring further follow-up. The boarding school will accommodate children from 6 to 12 years old, from Monday to Friday.

Michel Simonis, Director General of the Luxembourg Red Cross, explained: "With this new offer, we are strengthening our ability to help children and families facing the most difficult challenges. Thanks to funding from the Ministry of Education and Youth and with the support of our donors, we have been able to realise this ambitious project."

Kannerhaus Jean is a unique structure in Luxembourg, providing psychotherapeutic care for children suffering from psychological disorders when all other means and outpatient psychotherapeutic care are not enough to reduce or eliminate their suffering. The centre also helps families by providing therapeutic and academic support through a variety of methods.

The development of these novel and innovative therapies is made possible thanks to the support of various donors, such as RBC or the Fondation Jean Hamilius Junior. Indeed, the Dudelange section of RBC took advantage of the inauguration to present a cheque for €8,000.
