ADA have announced their 41st Midi de Microfinance, this time focusing on the subject of housing, to be held on Wednesday 29 November 2017 at the Auditorium of Banque de Luxembourg from 12:00-14:00.

The upcoming Midi de Microfinance will look at the role of microfinance in accessing housing, an issue which boils down to one main issue: an income-generating activity makes it possible to build a house, but ownership of a house is often a condition for obtaining a loan to initiate the income-generating activity. Therefore, the event aims to answer the questions of what can be done to break this vicious circle and what sort of support should MFIs provide to their clients?

The Midi will also analyse why microfinance institutions generally neglect the question of housing, even though it is a fundamental element of both life and work. One question regarding this will be whether MFIs should be encouraged to offer products in the field of housing and, if so, how they could then be supported.

Three institutions, all of which are finalists in the European Microfinance Award 2017, which will be organised on 30 November 30 as part of the European Microfinance Week, have accepted the invitation to share their expertise in this area at the 41st Midi. These include the First MicroFinanceBank-Afghanistan (FMFB-A), a microfinance bank in Afghanistan, Mibanco-Peru, a microfinance institution in Peru and Cooperativa de Ahorro y Préstamo Tosepantomin-Mexico, a Mexican cooperative.
