The Automobile Club du Luxembourg (ACL) is taking part in the launch of the European initiative of automobile clubs against traffic at the borders.

Commuters often face long waiting times on their daily commute to work and this increasing volume of traffic is affecting the motorway of border regions more and more. In this context and in collaboration with its partner clubs in Germany (ADAC), France (ACA) and Switzerland (TCS), the ACL has launched a new initiative to reduce European commuter traffic. Together, they now offer a carpooling platform on their respective internet portals (www.acl.lu/covoiturage).

The goal of the initiative is to facilitate carpooling for commuters, most of whom travel alone in their car. This relieves the roads of traffic, creates additional parking spaces and reduces not only the exhaust emissions but also the fuel budget. The four clubs have access to a single database on a European scale. The platform is accessible to everyone- drivers or passengers- even without joining a car club. Members of a motor club can indicate their membership if they offer themselves as drivers, since this adds additional security: in case of a problem on the road, the car club concerned always provides assistance.

Unlike other carpool portals, all partner clubs offer this service at no cost. The fare is simply negotiated between the driver and the passengers. Many carpools also work so that drivers take turns. Therefore, no payment is required, the drivers take turns and drivers often take their passengers for free, especially if they are trainees or students.

Thanks to a "Like" rating system, passengers can also indicate directly on the platform that the driver has met their expectations or, on the contrary, report abuse.
