The stretch of road between Dasbourg and Marnach (N10) is recognised to be in a bad state of repair; for this reason its renovation has been foreseen for several years.

However, the renovation in question has repeatedly come up against conflicts between road safety criteria to be complied with during the redevelopment and restrictions caused by the status of the area in which the road section in question is located - it is home to the Natura 2000 "Habitats" and "Birds" protection zones. As a result, an assessment of the impacts on flora and fauna habitats and several safety audit studies have been carried out over time.

This incompatibility between environmental obligations and those of road safety have also been the subject of numerous consultations between the actors involved, who finally came to an agreement a few months ago. The project is to be divided into two lots, one for the renovation of the road itself, and one for the construction of a structure which will minimise the impact on protected species. The contract notice for the first lot is scheduled to be published during the course of the year, so that work can begin in early 2019; the second lot will be ready at a later date, with detailed studies currently underway.

In addition to these complications, the existing road is subject to pollution with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which requires on-site cold recycling, which in turn will still have to be subject to a specific authorisation for the amended law of 21 March 2012 on waste and the law of 10 June 1999 on classified establishments.

The N10 road renovation project will affect a stretch of 4.22 kilometers and the project will take a total of 300 working days. The new road will be 6 metres wide with overhangs on hairpin bends.
