Museum visits grew by 21% in 2015, according to the review of the Musée National d'Histoire et d'Art (MNHA) across its three sites in Luxembourg.
The MNHA, Musée Dräi Eechelen and the Villa Romaine welcomed 90,231 visits over the last twelve months, revealing an increase of more than 20% compared with 2014.
The MNHA at Marché-aux-Poissons in Luxembourg City proved the most popular, accounting for 60,222 visitors registered in 2015 and a 43% growth in influx relative to 2014. This was due in part to the introduction of free permanent collections in January 2015; the reopening of the Wiltheim Wing in March 2015; the inauguration of 'The Coin Cabinet' in December; and particularly the popularity of the 'Mummies - The Dream of Everlasting Life' exhibition and its conference cycles organised from 12 June 2015 to 10 January 2016. The latter managed to draw in an attendance of 21,234 people.
The museum reported that 2016 will consist of four exhibitions:
- H. Craig Hanna. 'Paintings and Drawings', from 4 March to 26 June 2016 in the Witheim room;
- Réaccrochage by Joseph Kutter from 4 March 2016 in the Kutter rooms;
- 'The Cold War in Luxembourg' from 22 April to 9 October 2016 in the Wiltheim Wing
- 'Passion. Albrecht Bouts and the Face of Christ' from 7 October 2016 to 12 February 2017 on the fourth floor.
This year will also mark the public opening of the underground area of the Wiltheim Wing, which will house a permanent exhibition devoted to archaelogy in Luxembourg City.
Musée Dräi Eechelen (M3E) will be bringing the exhibition 'The Borders of Independence. Luxembourg between 1815 and 1839' into its second semester with a conference- and event-rich programme. On 7 June 2016, a new temporary exhibition will be installed devoted to the history of the Pont Adolphe, whilst the Villa Romaine in Echternach will open to the public from 22 March to 2 October 2016.
