The Bibliothèque nationale de Luxembourg (BnL) will host the official presentation of the Catalogue of medieval manuscripts of Orval on Wednesday 12 July 2017 at 18:30.

The presentation of this catalogue will be held in the BnL’s Salle des Arts in the presence of the Secretary of State for Culture, Guy Arendt.

After publishing the first volume of the catalogue of manuscripts and fragments of medieval manuscripts currently preserved in the Grand Duchy, the precious reserve of the BnL now presents the second volume of this series devoted to the collection of the ancient Cistercian Abbey of Orval.

Richly illustrated, this catalogue is the fruit of many years of research and study. It records and describes in two volumes, out of a total of 851 pages, 76 complete manuscripts datable from the 9th to the 17th century, as well as 9 fragments, thus constituting an unparalleled work tool, meeting the scientific requirements of philologists, historians, palaeographers and are historians.

During the presentation, Thomas Falmagne, doctor of philosophy and letters and author of the catalogue, will unveil the ridge lines, the gaps and the specificities of the cultural history of the Orval library, so that the exceptional value of this heritage appears in broad daylight.

Interested parties are invited to register until 10 July 2017 at info@bnl.etat.lu or by fax: 352 475 672.
