The Luxembourg National Museum of Natural History will present from 8 June to 9 September 2018 the exhibition "Rock Fossils", in the vaulted rooms of Neimënster.

The Rock Fossils exhibition, the vernissage of which will take place on Thursday 7 June 2018 at 19:00 in Neimënster, will celebrate the secret love between palaeontology and rock music.

The secret link between rock and fossil science has long flourished underground, but now is the time to unveil this unlikely love affair. More than one palaeontologist will manifest his passion for rock and metal by naming new fossil species based on his favourite rock stars. These extraordinary Rock Fossils, together with the music that inspired their scientific discovery, are true immortal ambassadors of diversity and passion.

The exhibition and its mentoring programme (see https://www.mnhn.lu/blog/2018/05/rock-fossils-a-program-that-will-rock-you/) will celebrate this unorthodox union in all its facets: the rock stars of science will offer a glimpse of the abyss of the oceans and the metal scene as well as a Science Slam and workshops to guide us to the discovery of a rock fossil. Musicians will also meet their fossil on stage. As a bonus, the public will baptise a brand new fossil species. Science has never been so rock'n'roll.

In attendance at the opening of the exhibition on 7 June will be Secretary of State for Culture Guy Arendt. The opening will be followed by an exclusive concert by Elysian Gates (symphonic metal, Luxembourg).

Entry is free.
