New building - the National Library is preparing: Luxembourg and non-Luxembourg funds partially blocked from 19 February to 30 April 2018 (26.01.2018)
Communicated by: National Library of Luxembourg

Due to the scheduled move of the National Library of Luxembourg (BnL) from Luxembourg-ville to its new home in Luxembourg-Kirchberg this spring, the lirary has informed the public that inventory work will take place in the Luxembourg and non-Luxembourg collections from 19 February to 30 April 2018.

The work is being carried out as part of preparations for moving to the new building of the BnL and aims to equip some 416,000 books with RFID tags to optimise the loan of documents. Thanks to RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology, documents can be borrowed and returned by the users themselves via automatic loan / return terminals.

To carry out this major project, the BnL is obliged to temporarily block part of the Luxembourg and non-Luxembourg collections. Consequently, the documents concerned will not be accessible for loan or even for the on-site consultation.

The BnL invites its users to anticipate their orders for documents and to make the reservation before 19 February 2018.

A list of the relevant ratings can be found on the BnL website (www.bnl.lu) or at the loan and intelligence desk starting next week. A request/authorisation to consult documents may only be granted in exceptional cases and upon presentation of a justification letter which should be addressed to Tona Peters for the Luxembourg collection (email: tona.peters@bnl.etat.lu) and to Lynn Herr for the non-Luxembourg collection (email: lynn.herr@bnl.etat.lu).
