On Saturday 6 August 2016 Ni Xia Lian from Team Lëtzebuerg competed against Carolina Kumahara from Brazil in round 1 of the women’s singles table tennis. While Ni Xia Lian struggled to find her way in the early games, she eventually overcame her opponent with a 4-3 final score. She thus made it to the second round on Sunday 7 August 2016 in which she defeated Shen Yanfei from Spain with a similar score of 4-3.

Ni Xia Lian is originally from Shanghai, China. She has represented Luxembourg in international competitions since 1991 and is a three-time Olympian: in 2000, 2008 and 2012. She is now the dean of Team Lëtzebuerg. She will play round 3 today at 16:00 (CET) against Feng Tianwei from Singapore.

The Luxembourgish cyclist Fränk Schleck was placed the 20th place in the men’s road race on Saturday 6 August 2016, which was won by Greg Van Avermaet of Belgium. The race featured a steep and dangerous downhill section which claimed a number of top riders. Fränk Schleck is known for his five national road race championships, the blue riband mountain stage in the 2006 Tour de France and the alpine stage of the 2009 Tour de France, among others. He is the elder brother of the cyclist Andy Schleck.

Meanwhile, in the Olympic Pool, Raphaël Stacchioti finished in 23rd place out of 27 in the 400 m individual medley for men. Tomorrow, Tuesday 9 August 2016, he will participate in the 100 m freestyle. Raphaël is specialised in freestyle and individual medley events, and is a two-time Olympian (in 2008 and 2012).

Finally, the Luxembourgish swimmer Laurent Carnol finished in 27th place out of 47 in the 100 m breaststroke. He will take part in the 200 m breaststroke also tomorrow, Tuesday 9 August 2016. Carnol is a Luxembourgish swimmer who has set national records in the men's breaststroke at the 2010 European Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
