Last Sunday 17 December 2017, Luxembourg’s Kockelscheuer hosted the Beneluxcup for the third time.

This edition of the Beneluxcup, held for skaters from Luxembourg, Belgium and the south of the Netherlands, saw the participation of 78 skaters from 10 clubs in 80 races, including four relays.

Despite there being only 14 skaters from Luxembourg- due to a combination of sickness and holidays- all the local skaters did their best. Highlights included Peter Murphy winning for Luxembourg for the third year running and Anna Ruysschaert coming in third place in the B division.

As for the overall results, Peter Murphy placed 1st out of 22 participants in Division A Senior/ Junior, Anna Ruysschaert came 3rd/21 in the 500m with a personal best of 49.28 seconds in Division B Senior/Junior and Elisa Aulamo came 15th/17 with personal bests in the 500m and 777m in the Pupillen Division A. In the category  Pupillen Division B, Rim Serghini placed 6th, Sergii Mallardi 7th, Maya Flood Bauwens 11th, Sidoine Conesa 12th, Foivos Ninios 13th, Nuhmi Rausch 14th, Chloé Ska 15th, Nora Serghini Serghini 16th, Aliya Bouargane 17th, Ayanna Bali 18th and Ghita Bouargane 19th.

Skaters Augustin Géré and Caroline Murphy could not compete on the day due to injury, but helped out as track steward (the person replacing the blocks during races) and assistant referee respectively.

Ten days earlier, on 7 December, Peter Murphy also collected the award for “Jeune Espoir Masculin” or Young Sportsman at the Luxembourg Sports Press Awards held at the Coque. This was for the Gold and Silver Medals won at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Erzurum.
