The past fortnight has seen Luxembourg skaters in action in three short track speed skating competitions in Belgium and France.

Luxembourg skaters Jimmy, Julie and Marco Kiesgen and Anna Ruysschaert took part in both the Easter Cup in Gent and the International Closing Games in Turnhout, with each of the juniors on the podium in one competition.

The Easter Cup, held from 30 March – 1 April in Gent (Belgium), saw the Girls Junior E/F’s (U12) Julie Kiesgen come 2nd place out of 19 players with new personal best times of 28.869s in the 222m and 39.577 in the 333m. Similarly, Boys Junior D’s (U14), Jimmy Kiesgen placed 4th/15 with a personal best of 34.916s in the 333m, whilst Girls Junior C’s (U16) Anna Ruysschaert came 3rd/10 with a personal best of 1:20.880 in the 777m and Masters’ Marco Kiesgen placed 11th/12 with personal bests in the 500m (1:03.468) and 1500m (3:33.036) races.

Meanwhile, the Closing Games held in Turnhout (Belgium) on 7 April, Julie Kiesgen came 4th/15 with a personal best of 28.023s in the 222m. Moreover, Jimmy Kiesgen came 3rd/13, Anna Ruysschaert placed 14th/17 and Marco Kiesgen finished 10th/13.

In addition, Max Backstrom took a break from his studies in Munich to compete at the Trophée du Grand Lion in Belfort, finishing 9th/20 in the Senior Men race.

The next competition will be the National Championship in Kockelscheuer on 22 April 2018.
