The Cultural and Scientific Centre of Russia in Luxembourg (CCSR) has sent a team of young athletes to the 4th edition of the Russian Federation’s Sports Games, held from 13-19 May 2018 in Kazan.

The sporting event for young Russian compatriots living abroad, held in Kazan (the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan and the sports capital of Russia, brought together 650 young athletes from 60 countries around the world. The CCSR was responsible for selecting the Luxembourg team to represent the Grand Duchy during these sports competitions and chose, according to the qualifying results, a team of 10 teenagers to defend the Luxembourg colours.

In 2018, the sports programme includes competitions in 7 popular sports: basketball, mini football, volleyball, chess, table tennis, rhythmic gymnastics and swimming. The Luxembourg team is taking part in the chess, swimming and rhythmic gymnastics competitions. The team encompasses Reding Sevda, Ortiz Bogdanov Pablo, Sergeev Ilya, Kaverznev Petr, Hecker Gleb, Gamasa Polina, Szatmari Borbala, Viguier Ilya, Bonnier Alina and Yampolskaia Elizaveta.

The Luxembourgers demonstrated their creativity during their presentation for the “Business Card” contest. According to the organisers, this competition allows young people to get to know each other and to discover the cultural peculiarities and traditions of the various countries of the world where young compatriots live. The winners of the contest will be revealed this evening.

This is the first time that Rhythmic Gymnastics has been included in these games, with 32 gymnasts from more than 20 countries participating in the competitions. The Luxembourg team in rhythmic gymnastics came in joint second place with Moldova. Both teams scored 105.2 points, just behind the Russian team.

In the individual general classification, gymnast Elisaveta Iampolskaya came 2nd place and gymnast Alina Bonnier came in 16th place. Both are members of the Rythmo-Cats Club Luxembourg.
