On Sunday 8 October 2017, the Grand Duchy held its local/municipal elections in the 105 municipalities (communes) around the country.

A total of 287,516 residents were on the electoral lists and entitled to vote, of which 33,902 people were non-Luxembourgish and 253,614 were Luxembourgish; on the day, 213,547 people voted, of which 196,967 votes were declared valid (14,672 votes were sent by post).

Out of the 3,575 candidates standing for election for the 668 positions, 1,274 were women and 2,301 were men; 3,307 were Luxembourgish and 268 were non-Luxembourgish. The period of each mandate is 6 years.
