From yesterday, 1 January 2018, a number of smaller municipalities have merged following the government-led initiative to reduce the number of low-population administrative centres with numbers less than 3,000 inhabitants.

Following on from government approval in mid-2015, Helperknapp (Boevange-sur-Attert & Tuntange, with their offices in Tuntange) and Habscht (Hobscheid & Septfontaines, with their offices in Eischen) are now in existence officially.

In addition, Rosport and Mompach will merge to become Rosport-Mompach, with their offices in Rosport.

Previously, Kaerjeng was born out of the merger of Barcharage and Clemency municipalities.

All were created following referenda that were carried out in all of the former municipalities.
