At the invitation of Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy, Étienne Schneider, the Minister of Economy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), HE Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansoori, was in Luxembourg on Wednesday 18 April 2018 for a working visit.

Luxembourg has close bilateral relations with the UAE. Whether in the political or economic field, many ministerial visits to the UAE have taken place since 2005. Since 2000, economic relations between Luxembourg and the UAE have continued to grow steadily.

Welcoming the close ties between Luxembourg and the UAE, Minister Schneider and Sultan Bin Saeed Mansoori discussed the establishment of a joint commission between the two countries to explore bilateral co-operation opportunities in different economic sectors, including tourism, logistics and the space sector. This commission is therefore part of the general context of the scientific cooperation agreement in the framework of the SpaceResources.lu initiative, signed in October 2017 between Luxembourg and the UAE, on the exchange of information and expertise in human resources, space science and technology, and legislation and space law. The highlight of the Grand Duchy's bilateral cooperation with the UAE in the coming years will be Luxembourg's participation in the World Expo in Dubai in 2020, for which more than 25 million visitors are expected.

During the working visit to Luxembourg, Sultan bin Saeed Al-Mansoori, also had meetings at the Chamber of Commerce and visited the Freeport facilities at Findel as well as the site of the satellite operator SES in Betzdorf.
