Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel submitted his cabinet's resignation to His Royal Highness The Grand Duke this morning.

As is customary after the parliamentary elections in Luxembourg, His Royal Highness received the former prime minister in audience today where the latter formally submitted his resignation and that of his government.

HRH the Grand Duke asked the current government to remain in office until the formation of a new government. The Grand Duke also instructed Xavier Bettel to continue with current affairs and to take, if necessary, the urgent measures required by exceptional circumstances. The Luxembourg Head of State and Head of Government likewise discussed the political situation resulting from yesterday's elections.

Following the hearing, His Royal Highness similarly consulted Mars di Bartolomeo, President of the Chamber of Deputies, and Georges Wivenes, President of the Governing Cabinet. The presidents of the parties that submitted lists in all four constituencies were also received in turn during the day for consultation.
