On Thursday 7 December 2023, Luxembourg's Minister for Home Affairs, Léon Gloden, swore in the new mayors and aldermen of Esch-sur-Alzette and Grevenmacher and an alderman of the City of Luxembourg.

By Grand Ducal Decree of 6 December 2023, Christian Weis has been appointed Mayor of the City of Esch-sur-Alzette and Monique Hermes has been appointed Mayor of Grevenmacher. The former replaces Georges Mischo, who is the new Minister of Labour and of Sport, whilst the latter replaces Minister Gloden, who himself served as Mayor of Grevenmacher until his recent government appointment.

By ministerial decree of 7 December 2023, the following individuals have been appointed aldermen / alderwomen: Bruno Cavaleiro in the City of Esch-sur-Alzette; Liane Felten in Grevenmacher; Laurent Mosar in the City of Luxembourg.

On Thursday at 14:00, the aforementioned parties took the following oath, as prescribed by Article 6 of the amended municipal law of 13 December 1988, in front of Minister Gloden: "I swear to observe the Constitution and the laws and to fulfil my function with integrity, accuracy and impartiality."

These new appointments came about following the formation of the new Luxembourg Government - and its knock-on effect on the composition of parliament and municipal councils.
