From Monday 29 October, LuxTram will start preparations for the construction of the extension of the tram line to Luxembourg's city centre, along Avenue Emile Reuter and Avenue de la Liberté.

The third phase of works follows the extension of the tram network to Place de l'Etoile in July; Luxtram will now start the preparatory work for the construction of the tramway line to Luxembourg's city centre, with Avenue Emile Reuter and Avenue de la Liberté the next streets to be worked on.

By the end of 2020, the tram will run on this new section, from the Place de l'Etoile to Luxembourg-Gare by serving 4 new stations, and all without overhead power lines.
The trees along the Avenue de la Liberté will be restored during the final development by new trees planted so as not to impact the new networks and while allowing them to develop sustainably. They will enrich the plant heritage of the City of Luxembourg and thus contribute to a better quality of life for all.

The next phase of the preparatory work will concern the Avenue Emile Reuter and the Avenue de la Liberté (between Place de Metz and Place de Paris) and will involve the pruning and removal of trees, installation of site facilities, relocation and installation of temporary bus stops with associated signage, installation of temporary traffic lights, and removal of equipment or street furniture.

Luxtram has confirmed that they will ensure, along with the services of the State and the City of Luxembourg, to maintain the maximum flow of traffic and minimise nuisances during the execution of works. Particular attention will be paid in respect of local residents. A team of two site mediators will relay information on a daily basis in the field (contact tel: 2620-2820).

On Avenue de la Liberté, the trees between Place de Metz and Rue Schiller will be removed from 29 October. From 5 November, 10 trees will be transplanted to Aspelt along the bike path. In order to reduce the impact on traffic, this transplant work will be done at night and the teams will take care to reduce the noise pollution to the maximum. On the Place de Paris, 8 trees will also be removed during the same period. The other trees of the Avenue de la Liberté will be removed as work progresses by the end of 2018. From mid-November, Luxtram will start diversion and reinforcement work and the renewal of underground networks. Thus, underground pipes (water, gas, electricity, ...) currently under the future platform of the tramway, must be moved to remain accessible in case of maintenance or repair, without having to disrupt the future activity of the tramway.
